Shop Your Closet

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! I hope you have a blessed day with Family and Friends. This year I am thankful for my family and our health, and am also thankful for a job that I love with grateful clients.

Tomorrow is known as “Black Friday” in the retail world. I hope that it will be a banner day for retailers and boost the economy. I, however, will  not be anywhere near a store on Friday. I may be a passionate shopper, but I do NOT like to shop on this day. I know friends who love this tradition and get up at the crack of dawn to stand in line to get a special only available at 5 AM. I will be sound asleep in my warm bed. Do you belong to this group of die-hard shoppers? Have a great time and I hope you catch some deals. I may venture out about 6 pm when everyone is tired and gone home for dinner. Boycotting Black Friday? Take a look in your closet…

We all have many things in our closet that could be given new life by simply combining it with something you have never tried before. I call this “Shopping your Closet”.  When working with clients, I always offer this as an option in addition to hitting the mall. Many women wear their clothes as the outfit they purchased together in the store, and never think about changing it up. One of my favorite things to do as a stylist is make new combinations in a closet. Recently, a client pulled each individual piece from her closet one by one. Then she asked… “What do I wear with this?” and I rattled off as many things as I could think of and pulled outfits together from her OWN closet while she took notes. Later she made tags to put on the hangers which listed the options. I can also document with  photos and include all the accessories needed to make the outfit complete. This is a great way to jog your memory when getting ready each day.

Do you wear your clothes the same way all the time?  This is when I believe anyone could benefit from the help of a personal stylist.  Another person sees things that you don’t. Shopping your closet saves $$. In the photos you will see the same top shown with different jackets and accessories. Note how you can pull out the common colors we all have in our closet (black or denim) or predominant color (green) and less predominant color (purple)  See what others say…  Need some help?
