New Trend: Boatshoes

Although spring is a few months away, I like to show upcoming trends and highlights– some that can be worn now. It’s really easy to grow tired of your darker colors in January and February. Tangerine Tango could be the color you need to brighten up your grays and other neutral colors.

Now it’s on to shoes. Last summer when I linked to the What Kate Wore website a reader asked about boat shoes. Kate had worn a pair of Sebagos during their trip to Canada and the US. She asked what I thought of these shoes and how to wear them. I admittedly was a little behind. I knew these shoes were making a comeback as my son had also asked for a pair of Sperrys, but I really had not fully embraced them as an upcoming trend.

Now you will see them everywhere–reminiscent of the 80s with a spin. Two tone, a little bling, bright colors…What do you think?

Sperry Top Sider is one of the main brands for boat shoes for men and women. You’ll see at Zappos there is much more–everything from a flat to boots. Check out all the options!

Boat shoes look great with a straight leg jean or casual pants that require a flat shoe. It seems to be just the right cut to show them off. Remember, as we get into spring straight cut jeans look great rolled which shows off the shoes even more. Some of you will like them a skinny jean, others think their feet and these shoes will stand out too much. I also think they will look great with a walking short in the spring/summer.

Thought it would be fun to show a little bit of spring. I would love to hear what you think and if you’ll add these to your spring shopping list.

Jenna, Michele & I each have a couple of pairs of Sperry’s and we absolutely love them! I love the Angelfish style (as opposed to the classic style) because they show a little bit more of the top your foot, so you don’t look so cutoff at the ankles)

Thanks for the comment! I agree that showing more of your foot is the way to go. I think the Sebago style has a that feature as well in addition to it just looking “lighter”. Sounds like the comfort level is high if you have more than one pair!

I lived in ‘deck’ shoes in the 80s (as I summered on a sailboat). I would love to relive the trend – but these 40+ year old feet run pretty wide now and with heel problems I worry I won’t be able to :( BUT my girls can :)

I love the look, but am worried my wide feet will not be able to handle them and I can just feel them rubbing against my bunion. I’ve found that the Walmart orthotics really help when I’m wearing a flat shoe as I get the heel pain too. Unfortunately, though I’m probably going to have to pass on this fun trend myself! Thanks for the comment!

Karen I was just complaining to my coworker today that I’m SO tired of wearing my snow boots every day! Thanks for this bit of colorful shoes to brighten up my day and give me hope as I look out at a foot of snow and more coming down. I think these are great and would love to find a pair for spring/summer!

Thanks for the helpful tips! Last summer I bought a pair of yellow sebagos. I wore them a ton with shorts, but had a difficult time wearing them with jeans. Thanks for the helpful tips. Rolling the jean is a great idea!
