My husband (that's who I take shopping with me because he is so bluntly honest) convinced me to buy a petite size. I am 5' 3" but have never gone for that. I love it, and they are so flattering. Got them at Ann Taylor, and unfortunately, there isn't one nearby (we were vacationing). It hits my crotch, knees, and length perfectly. The only down side is that it doesn't look as good with my running shoes on. My longer pants covered those up a little, but I still prefer these petites.

I'm a poster child for this article. When Karen took me shopping for jeans, I was saying so many bad words, the woman in the dressing room next to me starting laughing -- she knew the feeling! My question is ... On What Not to Wear, Stacey and Clinton said something about how, if the jeans gap just above the booty but fit everywhere else, you could have a tailor alter them. Do you know what they were talking about? I got the impression they meant 1 or 2 V-shaped tucks in the back. Is that right? Both my jeans (yes, I have 2 now!) fit my hips OK, but they seem to get gappy around the waist after a couple of wearings.

What brands or stores do you recommend trying for the straight and boot-cut jeans?
