If you happened to read my post on Back to School Fashion, I noted that the wonderful photos were taken by Barbara Hill. In effort to keep my articles of reasonable length, I decided to feature Barbara in a separate post with more examples of her work. Especially for Style by Karen, Barbara is giving away a FREE sitting. (valued at $150)
I met Barb through our Women’s Entrepreneur Group. She photographs many kids and families; I knew she would be the perfect fit for my project. Weeks after she agreed, I e-mailed her in a bit of desperation. My oldest was leaving for college. Some time ago my husband requested a photo shoot of our two boys and himself on the golf course. (I do not golf) Somehow in the busyness of life that never happened. Barb fit us in, working around our schedule which was crazy mid-August.
We whisked her off in the golf cart, the golfers explained what they wanted, and in a short time she had captured their love for the game. All while putting up with my husband’s sense of humor, teenagers who were polite but really didn’t have “time” for this, not to mention a tight squeeze in the golf cart! Describing this scene should convey to you that Barb is a pleasure to work with. She has quite a witty sense of humor herself. She is creative, energetic and related well to the kids. My son said, “She made picture taking fun, not a hassle!”
From weddings, to pets to Seniors, here are some examples of the variety of her work.
As for that golf photo? Well my indecisiveness caused me to miss my own deadline. I can’t make up my mind on what to choose!

I like the different ideas she has. I’m tired of the same old poses. I really like a few of the pictures she took of the kids and plan on ordering some. Excited to have something different!

Love the photos! I think the dog is my favorite because it’s so different. Can’t wait to see some ideas from you on coordinating clothing for photos – I always love the denim/white look.
I have dreamed for 3 years after our children were married to get a full family photo of all 6 of us. This would be a dream come true if I am lucky enough to win this. If not, I could still use her, her photos are great, I love the dog one too. I did finally get my photo done last Christmas for my husbands office, somthing I had never done but was glad that I did.

Love the photography! She is very talented. We have not had a professional family photo taken in about 7 years…I know it is crazy but true. Time just flies and my boys are getting so big. Love the outdoor shots and the dog is just too cute! Hope I am the lucky winner

I haven’t gotten a family photo done in 5 years! Now that my oldest is in Middle School and the youngest is in first grade, I think it is past time to get it done! My mother-in-law has been trying to get the whole family together for a professional photo for the last year and we keep putting it off. The last one we had taken was probably six or seven years ago. This would be wonderful!!
Barb has taken many great sports photographs of kiddos on some sports teams that my husband has coached on over the past few years . . . the most amazing part about it is that it was the 10 year old boys who love the photos most! They look at them over and over
She also has a kind heart and I’ve never seen her without a smile on her face. I am expecting my first kiddo myself and would love to get some pregnancy shots with her!
Oh my gosh, Janalee…..I’m SO EXCITED for you & Brian! (insert squeal here!!) The Chieftains miss Brian like crazy….he’s an awesome coach & we hope he’s back next year! Congrats on the new little one. You would totally rock some fun pregnancy pics!

I would love to see the photos on the Golf Course Karen, That sounds like what I need for pictures for my boy and his Dad…. I have tried to do this when I go along with them but it is rare that I get a close enough shot, I love the intensity in their faces when they are pondering a thought… I will definitely have to review Barbara’s work.
Thanks for sharing, I love the photos, and yes it is time for a new family photo. Life gets so busy and most of us forgot to take time to capture our family in a photo that we can share with our friends and family.
